Introduction and Background

Welcome to TarotL!
All levels of Tarot students are actively encouraged to participate in the discussions. Topics range from meanings of cards and spreads to deck and book reviews, associations of different systems (numerology, astrology, Qaballah, etc.) to personal uses (divination, spiritual growth, etc.) as well as history (from theories to actual decks) to creation of new decks.

Background of the List
The original list was started sometime in the Spring of 1996 by a small group of Tarot enthusiasts. At that time the 'list' was about 20 people and it was maintained by each member, manually, within their own e-mail programs (just do multiple sends and cc:'s), and that's when I first joined the group.
The list slowly grew to around 30 members and people were wanting to be put on or taken off of everyone else's list. To make things easier for people, it was suggested that the 'list' should find a listserv type server to handle the membership remotely.
A server was found and the members signed up, but there were problems. Commands were not working and no one had any 'technical' control over the list to assist subscriptions and unsubscriptions. Members were getting fustrated so another listserv was searched for. After doing some research on a few LISTSERV webpages, an address to write to asking LISTSERV providers if they would consider carrying the list was found. An e-mail was written and sent out into the world wide web and the list waited for a reply.
Within 24 hours a person named Barak Moshe wrote back and said that he would carry the list but that they were moving locations and it would be around a month before he could set it up. Time passed and he contacted the list again saying he was ready to set it up on his machine and he sent over the 'manual' (200+ pages of 'commands') and said anything and everything we'd ever need to know about the 'tech' stuff was in there. The list members were thrilled to finally have some technical control.
Within a week, listmembers switched from the old server to the new one at Techunix in Israel. That was in November of 1996. Barak was the only one to respond to the e-mail and TarotL will always be greatful to him and Techunix for their facilities and assistance.
The list continued to grow in both membership and operations. It's had its ups and downs. In the spring of 2000 it became obvious that both Techunix and TarotL had grown, unfortunately, too large for each other. After 3 and a half years, TarotL moved over to eGroups.com at the end of March, 2000.
There have been countless individuals who have contributed to the life and spirit of TarotL in ways too numerous to list. One such individual I would like to mention is the lovely Lady Evelyn [Evelyn Henry]. While her assistance in moderating/running TarotL was greatly appreciated, for me, it was the warm, intelligent, personal e-mails she sent to the list that made us laugh and think that made the biggest impression. On June 6, 1998, LadyEvelyn died peacefully in her sleep due to complications with cancer. The face on the TarotL webring banner is that of dear LadyEvelyn.
That's it for now. The rest is still being read.
